Great Enclosure for WD_BLACK SN850 2TB – Works great with Xbox Series X to house the WD_Black SN850 2TB to use as external storage.

Be ready to find screws that fit the drive board mount – The drive mount adapter screw included for mounting the drive the board has a long screw that goes through more than half the adapter. The short drive mount screw that came with my SSD was unable to screw in all the way because of it. I had to find two shorter screws that fit, luckily I am a packrat and had some leftover short screws from something else. The USB C port is poorly aligned with the cutout and slightly recessed, not a problem at the moment but could cause problems with other cables in the future.

Great NVMe enclosure – but the instructions could use a bit of work! – First off, from a functionality perspective, this is absolutely a 5 star item. Once built, it is easy to use, feels very solid and comes with everything you need to go (minus the NVMe drive itself of course). Tested with a reasonably inexpensive 256GB drive and was getting ~1GBps sequential read/writes even on a non-Thunderbolt USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, so awesome! Does get a bit warm, so use the included pad to turn the whole thing into one big heatsink.

Worked as expected but with high volume high speed data transfers will get very hot to the touch – Worked as expected but with high volume high speed data transfers will get very hot to the touch

Made a usb drive out of a oldNVMe – I was helping a friend upgrade his laptop to a larger drive so needed this to copy the data from his old NVme to the new one. The quality of the unit is very good. Real metal and good weight. Comes with both USB-A and USB-C cables so works with both older and newer laptops. Also came with some thermal tape to help with heat. My only comment is the side where the cable connects to the unit has a bit of flex which could wear over time if you swap cables often. The USB-C is so fast, you can use it as a boot drive.

No boot from USBC, Thermal pad does not touch metal case – The case itself is nice, and the product does work if you just want to transfer data. But it’s got a few issues I don’t like. 1. It doesn’t boot to USB-C ports on my system (other NVMe cases do). 2. The thermal pad is pointless because the way the NVMe slides in it cannot touch anything that will dissipate the heat. I’d think one would want the thermal pad to touch the metal casing so heat can more easily escape the way other thermal cooling products do. (including other NVMe cases). 3. While the case is nice, the USB-C plug/port is very flakey. I had to reconnect it to see a connection (on different computers) and noticed the “click-in” when connected doesn’t take on the first try every time. If I were in a pinch and needed just a simple, inexpensive product to transfer data, this does work ok. However, there are much better products for only a few dollars more, including tool-less options, heat pads that touch the metal case, and that boot while on USB-c. The product does work and I can still put it to use so I’ll keep it.

Flawed Design For Heat Dissipation (edit: But it works well) – I purchased this item for the ASM chip, as I’ve had problems with JMicron. The materials are of good quality, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the slide-in design combined with the fixed distance between the drive and enclosure make it impossible to make sufficient (or any) contact for heat transfer.

Mac Issue – Absolutely would not operate at 10Gbps using thunderbolt and proper thunderbolt cable. Instead, ran at USB2.0 speeds, even when trying a USB3.1 type C cable. Needed to convert to USB3.1 type A to get decent speeds out of it. It sure if it’s a M1 problem that it’s not recognizing the USB speed, but definitely leaves more to be desired.
